Getting the best price when selling your van.
The practice of informing you on sale of your caravan initially that vans do not hold their value is just a self fulfilling prophecy. This is to lull you into thinking that the low offer for your van on resale is the norm.
It is well known in the trade that camper vans hold their value very well, so if you think of the running around and potential wear and tear, how can that compare with a properly sited and well maintained “luxury ” static caravan.
Keep an accurate record of all problems you encounter from point of sale, especially when van is sited and total price paid for van.
When you receive your buy back price and Are not happy;
GO PUBLIC!
This practice must be stopped for your sake and the sake of all owners who trustingly sign on the dotted line.
Record your dissatisfaction with the Office of Fair Trading, if enough people protest they have to act. Go to the newspapers and feel free to use this web site as a media or source of information.
The process of selling privately is made very difficult for you with extra costs and unnecessary complications. You can draw your own conclusions as to why.
hi dave , we, ve sold up now , after taking a year trying to find a buyer ,we sold back to rockley at a £16,000 lose on what we paid for the van the year before , and now happier now to have the worry ,of ground rent which they dont tell you it goes up by nealy £ 500 a year , the bill just mount up ,but the main think was the letting problem we had , like when it was less than a year old the wallpaper got ripped of the walls in one bedroom ,and rockley wouldnt do anything , so in the end i just blow my top and sold up ,i wouldnt tell anyone to buy at rockley park, even if i hated them
hello, my name is rob and me and my wife bought a brand new caravan from bourne leisure at their seashore site in gt yarmouth in april 2004 for 26,000. after only 6 months of letting with them we have decided to sell as the income we received and the level of service is nowhere near what was promised. they have given us a qoute of only 13,000. i am completley shocked to discover it has lost this much money in 6 months. is there any advice you could offer as how to get a better price from them. .
Can anyone help me with regard to the sale of our caravan. We have one sited at Rockley Park which we have informed management we would like to sell (which is the normal procedure). They have sent us a form to quote a selling price we would expect. However, we are not sure what to ask for. The Glass’s guide has been quoted to us. Is this the normal practice of Bourne Leisure when offering a price to buy back a caravan? A confused owner
Hi to the couple asking for advice on how to go about selling their caravan without the involvement of bourne leisure. We were caught in a similar situation just at the beginning of this season, Bourne Leisure will convince you that you cannot move your van from their site if it is on H.P. Your finance company will also try to convince you of the same telling you it is in your contract but in fact it isn’t, this is a verbal agreement between the two, and it was a former Bourne Leisure salesman who brought it to my attention, I contacted the finance company and bourne leisure on the same day again and again to get the same answer until both finally told me they had no objection to my moving, I had to then write a letter of complaint to the finance company about bourne leisure and the park we were on, They in turn wrote back saying I could move which I did,
The new site is not linked to bourne leisure and we are able to sell privately all be it the new park still ask for a commission on the sale but we have decided to keep our van as the new site we are on is first class, we are able to do most things ourselves like putting inour own verhanda etc which the other lot took an arm and a leg for.
The way forward though is to stick to your guns and get it in writing from your finance company that they have no objection to you moving and then hand it to your park manager in writing and it wasn’t that expensive for the transport company to move it either but I won in the end
