Welcome to another diary newsletter. Sadly, the weather this year has been the worst we can remember with only a handful of days of real sunshine. Nevertheless, miraculously, out of nowhere, came a weekend of glorious sunshine for the excellent bowls weekend organised and controlled by Ray Whittaker. This was truly a very enjoyable weekend for all who took part and culminated in a small get together and prize giving in Hardy’s, at which Geoffrey presented the prizes on behalf of Bourne Leisure. We hope Ray has already booked the weather for next year’s event!
We also had the very popular Owners Association Boat Trip, which was very successful again. Unfortunately, due to rising costs, and the level of subsidy required, there won’t be a trip next year, but, hopefully there will be an alternative event.
Due to the alterations to the Park last year, which took the ‘walk through’ out of the Show bar we have hardly used it this year, so we’re not sure how the entertainment has been during the season. It did make sense to locate the shop outside the complex but, from a personal point of view, I could cheerfully take a heavy hammer to the nightmare of noise and mayhem that is the new arcade.
In our last report we expressed a lot of positive views on the activities on the Park and the attitude of the management and in general it’s fair to say that this has continued with some excellent events which are detailed in the Hardy’s report. Sadly, however there has been the usual chipping away at the opening times of the facilities (times which reduce year on year). Is it any wonder that many remain cynical in the face of this constant reduction of the facilities?
We are all aware of the plans for major redevelopment of the showbar next year and they do look impressive. We have been assured that the work will all be finished by the third week in March and that our facilities will be available at that time. Hmmmmm!
Sadly we have said goodbye to Charlotte from Reception, who has moved on to other things. Her sunny and helpful personality will be missed. We wish her well.
Finally, unfortunately, the wardens, who have traditionally done an excellent job, regularly exceeding their basic role and hours, will no longer be living on the Park. This will be a sad day for many of their ‘neighbours’ who are losing good friends from the neighbourhood and many of whom remain unconvinced that this is a ”positive step towards better customer service”. I guess we will have to wait and see. In any event their permanent presence will be sorely missed.
Well, that’s about it for now, we are looking forward to our two Christmas dinners, both organised off Park by the owners, and we will be holding a low key New Years Eve in Hardy’s to which any one on the Park is welcome to come along. After that we will all be going our separate ways again for the closed period.
So a happy Christmas to you all and an enjoyable and prosperous New Year
