Owners Diary
Welcome all, to another diary newsletter. We arrived back on the Park a little later than usual and immediately noted the impressive appearance of the Park main entrance and surrounding area which is considerably better. After such an awful summer last year we are hoping for a much better season this time.
We also arrived back to a new General Manager, in Geoffrey and hope that he will prove to be more approachable and sensible than the last one! Early indications from other owners are favourable. At least we, now, have an events calendar covering the whole season, which is a big step in the right direction and while there are still problems occasionally, things do seem to be running smoother this year.
Like many others, we do miss our permanent warden and are not yet convinced that the change was a good one, however, in fairness, we need to let a little time go by before we decide.
We enjoyed the St Patrick’s Night party in Hardy’s, well done to Louise for organising it at short notice. We are now looking forward to the Grand National Race night and the St George’s day celebrations. Also, we went along to see the ‘first public appearance’ of the Park entertainments team show, which turned out to be very entertaining and was delivered with style and enthusiasm by Tom’s team. We really hope, though, that the new sound system is sorted out as it is almost impossible to make out what people are saying. Also, like a great many others we have spoken to, we find the number of slot machines in the complex now at ‘total overkill’. Certainly the new ones adjacent to the show bar are totally intrusive and whilst the noise level of the machines has been mechanically reduced, that has not reduced the noise of the kids playing in there. On some nights this makes it almost impossible to hear the stage from the seats nearest the amusements. It seems a pity that the relaxed atmosphere of the complex a couple of years ago has been completely destroyed by endless, noisy machines which stand for hours unused.
It seems many more owners are beginning to use Hardys now and it is often very full these days. Sadly, the dreaded pool table is still there taking up valuable seating space and acting as a magnet to kids.
The shop is certainly improved this year as regards stock and layout and the bakery, run by the excellent June continues to provide very good service. The extended hours of the bakery are also a welcome change. The new shop manager, Bev, seems to be doing a very good job,
although, we have heard from several people that she has a tendency to take constructive comments as personal criticisms. If this were true, it would be a shame as, ultimately, it is the customers who will decide if the service is good or not. Bev has also taken control of the beach shop and café and we were very pleased to see this facility getting some, much needed, attention.
Well, that’s about it for now, except to say we have also heard the Owners Association is having a few more social events this year as well, so we will be looking forward to attending some of those when details are known.
