Owners Diary

Welcome all, to another diary newsletter, and generally what an excellent season it has been.
Lot’s of functions and events.

The Events calendar covering the whole season, was a big success and allowed us to plan and manage our time better.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Grand National Race night, the St George’s day party, D Day celebrations and wine tasting, all of which took place in Hardys.  We also had some very successful Tropicana events, namely Disney night, Carribbean Beach Party and Arabian Nights themed Summer Bar-b-q. All of these, again benefited from the imaginative set designing of Keith Ransome, ably assisted in the audio department by Terry Warner.
The only negative here was the Boat trip which turned into a bit of a disaster through lack of organisation and lack of Staff support on the night. (none)

We also went along to Rockley Park’s first carnival, which, considering that the weather turned against us, was well attended and as successful as it could have been in the circumstances.  Although more thought could have been given to side- shows for the kids.  Let’s hope for better weather next year.

In July we went to the excellent annual Owners’ Association Cream Tea.  This was held at Chrissie and Bills caravan and proceeds were donated to Macmillan Cancer Care.  Audrey Wallace, a fund raising manager for Macmillan, came along to join in and express her thanks for the support given.

The apparent improvement in the shop reported in the last diary turned out to be well founded. Bev and her team have supplied a very high standard of service this year whilst June and the bakery team have again excelled themselves.  The only negative has been that the “improved beach café” facility did not really materialise and had sporadic opening hours at best. We met literally dozens of people who wanted to use it, but found it shut, so didn’t go back .  We are aware that no extra staffing resource was found for this, which presumable led to the above problems. It does seem a real shame that this potentially excellent site continues to be under valued by Bourne Leisure.

The undoubted highlight of the season has to be Geoffrey’s brilliant Las Vegas night which was undoubtedly the most ambitious and successful event seen at Rockley since we have been on the Park. Thanks to Geoffrey and also to Tiphaine for all her work in preparing for the event! More please?

We are now looking forward to the Owners’ party, which, with entertainment supplied by the excellent 4 Tops should be very enjoyable.  We then need to start thinking about the dreaded Christmas and New Year.

Well, that’s about it for now, so enjoy the rest of the season and break and we look forward to seeing you all next season.
P.S. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY HOW VERY DISAPPOINTING IT IS TO HAVE A SEASON, WHERE SO MUCH APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED, END WITH SO MUCH ACRIMONY AND CONFRONTATION FOR SO MANY OF OUR MEMBERS. IT DOES APPEAR THAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR SOME SERIOUS ‘BRIDGE BUILDING’ HAS ONCE AGAIN BEEN WASTED.
